“Bluebeard’s Bride” by Kate Wheeler

Hey look what I found wandering around tumblr.  Plus they actually  credited me, which I’m always really happy to find. I’m still proud of this one, mostly because I didn’t have almost any references for this dress (all the ones I could find were of the front).

Prompt # 1: Tangled submitted by an anon.  Please submit your 1-3 word prompt, I need to challenge myself drawing wise.  Just hit up my askbox.
P.S. I prefer you not submit prompts as anons, otherwise it could be the same person submitting drawing prompts over and over again.

Another Thesis show piece. This was the first drawing I did and probably my favorite.  The Red Riding Hood fable is gory in almost every version, I chose the Charles Perrault version to depict.  In Perrault’s story Red is eaten and the story ends.  I had been sorely tempted to use the version where she unwittingly eats her grandmother’s remains and drinks her blood.

Blue Beard’s Bride.A piece from my thesis show, based around fairy tales, back in May 2010 that I never posted. Though I have some compositional issues with this one I couldn’t bare to take it out of the show because that dress took forever and a day.
3x4 ft, graphite & watercolor on rives BFK.

Once upon a time when I still had a studio I drew large, creepy drawings of scenes from Fairy Tales.  This was the first of the drawings for my thesis show depicting the wicked step sister in Grimm’s version of Cinderella.
The drawing is 3x4 ft, graphite, watercolor, and gold leafing pen on rives BFK.
